Our advising team is here to support you throughout your academic journey and provide advising for all three majors within the department:
We have four Staff Advisors who can assist with a wide range of topics, including course scheduling, major requirements, degree certification, CRNs, internships, academic difficulty, petitions, grades, transfer credit, and more.
In addition, our four Peer Advisors are available to help with general major advising and course planning. We also have a dedicated Office Assistant and Student Office Assistant who help keep the Advising Center running smoothly.

Ava is a fourth-year Animal Science major specializing in Animal Behavior and minoring in Sociology. Originally from Rialto, California, Ava has become interested in student retention and mentorship. Currently, they are involved in conducting a research project for dairy goat kid welfare under Dr. Moody's lab, work as a veterinary assistant, and serve as a high school mentorship program coordinator. They are interested in either pursuing veterinary medicine or research in animal personalities. In their free time, Ava spends time either at the gym, the Craft Center, or hanging out with friends.

Sadie is a third-year Animal Science major specializing in Companion and Captive animals. Originally from Pleasanton, California, she has been actively involved with both the Sacramento and Oakland Zoos, gaining hands-on experience in animal care and husbandry. Sadie aspires to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, with a particular interest in radiology, and is passionate about advancing animal health and welfare. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dog, Coco, grabbing coffee with friends, and staying active at the gym. This is Sadie’s first year as a Peer Advisor, and she is eager to support students and help them succeed in their academic and career goals.

Christy-Sue is a 4th-year Agricultural and Environmental Education major with a Focus Depth in Animal Science. Originally from Bakersfield, California, she brings hands-on experience to her role as a Swine Technician at the UCD Swine Facility and has served as an FFA Field Day Coordinator! She is also the Vice-President of the Young Farmers and Ranchers at UC Davis. Christy-Sue is passionate about combining her love for animal science with education, aspiring to become a CTE teacher specializing in veterinary technology. When she's not studying or working with animals, she can be found exploring new coffee shops or baking. As a first-year Peer Advisor, she is enthusiastic about guiding students through their academic journey and helping them achieve their educational and professional aspirations.

Alexa is a fourth-year Animal Science major specializing in Captive and Companion animals. Originally from Orange County, she loves to spend her time at the beach. She has been active in a beef cattle internship, a variety of clubs, and is recently started doing work in the Comparative Ophthamology and Vision Sciences Laboratory at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Her future plans consist of going to vet school and focusing in a small animal specialty. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, going on walks with her dog Kai, and cooking. This is Alexa’s second year as a Peer Advisor and she is eager to offer any advice and support on students academic plans and goals.

Quynh graduated from UC Davis in 2020 with a degree in Managerial Economics, and a minor in Technology Management. When she was a student, she served as a peer advisor in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Dean's Office, then became an Advising Assistant there after she graduated. Quynh's advising areas of interest include scholarship development, student events, and working closely with students, which she is very passionate about. In her free time, she enjoys baking, crafting, and spending time with her family.

Katherine graduated from The University of Arizona in 2011 with a B.A. in Anthropology. Originally from Arizona, Katherine is glad to be living on the West Coast, after having lived for four years in Southern New Jersey, where she worked with students majoring in the areas of Science Technology Engineering and Math. Katherine has a particular interest in student retention, and loves to work closely with students to help them achieve their goals. When not at work, Katherine loves to spend time hanging out with her husband and daughter. She is an avid reader, and can often be found with her nose stuck in a book every spare moment she gets. Katherine loves to travel and is always planning her next family vacation. Katherine loves frequenting museums and brushing up on her art history. Katherine also loves to cook and bake, and often shares her bakes with her friends in the Advising Center.

Emma earned her BS in Animal Science with a disciplinary focus in Animal Behavior and a minor in Comparative Literature at UC Davis in 2012. As a first-generation college student, she participated in the STEP program prior to her studies at UC Davis. While she was a student, Emma was a member of BUSP (Biology Undergraduate Scholars Program), competed in the Little International Stock Show, and was a peer advisor and a front office assistant for the Animal Science Advising Center. Her areas of professional interest include scholarship development, peer advisor training, internships and externships, and supporting first-generation students, among other topics. For the past 14 years, Emma has played a key role as the tabulations coordinator for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences FFA Field Day. Outside of her professional life, Emma enjoys reading, gaming, driving, and spending time with her cats.

Caitlin graduated from UC Davis in 2018 with a B.A. in Anthropology and a minor in Geology. Originally from San Diego, she spent seven years working in the veterinary field before transferring to UC Davis. During her time as a student, Caitlin served as a Peer Advisor for the Departments of Anthropology and Sociology, where she discovered her passion for helping students navigate their academic journeys. She is especially dedicated to supporting first-generation and transfer students—communities she proudly belongs to herself. Outside of work, Caitlin enjoys all things pop culture and loves reading, watching TV shows and movies, and exploring zoos and museums. She also cherishes time with her husband, daughter, and their two pets—Gibson the dog and Squeegee the cat (who often makes a cameo during virtual advising appointments from his favorite windowsill perch).

Grace graduated in 2011 from UC Davis with a BS in Animal Science with a specialization in Livestock & Dairy. She then worked for several UC Davis departments, including five years at the UC Davis Medical Center at the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science. She has now returned to Animal Science to continue helping students. Her hobbies include playing Dungeons & Dragons (as well as other tabletop role playing games) and continuing to learn as much as possible about cattle.

Lisa is the Teaching Coordinator for all Department of Animal Science courses. She is also the supervisor of the Animal Science Advising Center and the Animal Science Teaching Facility. She hails from beautiful San Diego, California, but both of her parents were from England, and she enjoys visiting family who live in the United Kingdom. Lisa received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and her Master of Science in Animal Biology, all from the Department of Animal Science at UC Davis. An avid animal lover, she has a horse named Inde and her two cats are Shandy and Ginger Beer. Lisa has an impressive collection of Hawaiian shirts and makes Meyer Hall a more festive place by wearing them!
Faculty Advisors
All students in the AEE, ANS, and ANM majors are assigned a Faculty Advisor—a professor who serves as a key academic mentor during your time in the major.
The role of the Faculty Advisor is to:
- Provide in-depth guidance on areas of study and specialization
- Approve courses for your specialization
- Discuss research opportunities and connect you with faculty in your area of interest
- Offer insight into career paths and professional development
Please note: Faculty Advisors manage their own schedules, so you’ll need to contact them directly via email to set up an appointment.
ANS and ANM students:
An email informing students of their Faculty Advisor assignment is sent out every October. If you did not receive an email with your Faculty Advisor's information, or if you have questions about how to find your Faculty Advisor, email asac@ucdavis.edu with your name and major included.
